A screw compressor makes sense where air is needed without a break. The screw block is designed to run 100 percent of the time, holds pressure steady and works quieter, usually between 65 and 70 decibels, so it can stand in the hall next to the workstations.
Size the power to real consumption. The rule of thumb is 120 to 130 l/min per kilowatt of motor power at 8 bar. A 7.5 kW compressor therefore gives roughly 900 to 1000 l/min, an 11 kW model around 1500 l/min. Raising pressure from 8 to 10 bar costs about 10 percent of output, so do not do it without a reason.
Check how the set is built. A frame version needs a separate tank, at least 200 litres for outputs up to 1000 l/min. A version with tank and dryer costs more but is a finished station: you connect 400 V and a pipe and you have dry air without picking components.
Plan the servicing. Compressor oil is changed every 2000 to 4000 hours, the separator and oil filters in the same cycle, the air filter element every 1000 hours. The hour counter is in the controller, so services can be planned ahead.
