BÖHLER 3 NiMo 1-UP is a submerged arc (SAW) wire for mild and low-alloy steels, including fine grained grades. It is used on steel structures, tanks, machine frames and workshop work on plain carbon steel.
Base materials include S460N, S460M, S460NL, S460ML, S460Q, S555Q and S460QL. The low hydrogen level in the deposit reduces the risk of cold cracking.
- Classification EN ISO: S 55 4 FB S3Ni1Mo
- AWS classification: F9A4-EF3-F3
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 2.5 / 3.0 / 4.0 mm
Clean rust, paint and grease out of the groove, contaminated plate gives porosity even with the parameters set correctly. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling.
