Thermanit MTS 616 is a low-alloy, creep resistant submerged arc (SAW) wire. It is used in boiler making, on pressure vessels and petrochemical installations.
Typical base materials are 1.4901 and ASTM A 355. The wire also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and its deposit resists creep at elevated temperature.
- Classification EN ISO: 24598-A S S ZCrMoWVNb 9 0.5 1.5
- AWS classification: A5.23 / SFA-5.23 EG (EB91(mod.))
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 1.2 / 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.0 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
Watch the hydrogen level, dry consumables and a preheated groove are your basic protection against cold cracking. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape.
