BÖHLER FOX C 9 MV LNi is a core wire alloyed stick electrode with a basic coating. The 9Cr-1Mo-VNb type deposit has a fully tempered martensitic structure and good mechanical properties after post weld heat treatment. The manufacturer intended it for joining tube, pipe, plate, forgings and castings made of creep strength enhanced ferritic steels of the ASTM grade 91 class, used in thermal power and petrochemical plants.
The base materials are 1.4903 (X10CrMoVNb9-1), 1.4955 (GX12CrMoVNbN9-1) and 10Cr9. The composition was chosen for creep resistance and ductility after heat treatment, with a low level of trace elements and a Bruscato factor below 15. The sum of manganese and nickel is held below 1.0 percent by weight, which keeps the Ac1 temperature safely above 780 degrees C and leaves you more margin when choosing the tempering temperature.

The reduced sum of manganese and nickel pays off when you temper at the upper end of the range in the procedure, because the margin to Ac1 grows. The thinner diameters, from 2.0 mm, make the root easier in thin walled tube. Run the preheating, the interpass temperature and the cooling before heat treatment to the technical instruction, without cutting corners. Keep the electrodes in a quiver and take them out one at a time.
