Union S 1 CrMo 5 is a low-alloy, creep resistant submerged arc (SAW) wire. It is used in boiler making, on pressure vessels and petrochemical installations.
The wire works as a set with a matched flux, which decides the mechanical properties of the weld. Its copper coated surface improves current pick-up in the contact tip, and the deposit resists creep at elevated temperature.
- Classification EN ISO: 24598-A S S CrMo5
- AWS classification: A5.23 / SFA-5.23 EB6
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 2.5 / 3.0 / 4.0 mm
Plan the preheating and the post weld heat treatment to the WPS for the grade in hand, CrMo steels harden in the heat affected zone. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape.
