UTP 85 FN is a basic coated electrode of the ENiFe-Cl type for surfacing and joining all grades of cast iron, with the emphasis on nodular iron in the classes from GGG 38 to GGG 60. It also suits joining cast iron to steel and cast steel.
The core wire is bimetallic, which is why the electrode takes a higher current and puts down a lot of weld metal in a short time. The metal flows evenly, the bead has a fine ripple, and in production and repair of nodular iron parts that translates directly into working time.

Nodular iron is more ductile than grey iron, but the heat affected zone hardens all the same, so preheat the part and cool it slowly. The higher current capacity tempts you to work fast, yet on a casting it is better to spread the heat over several short beads. After every bead chip the slag and peen the weld while it is still hot. Surfaces that will be machined should be surfaced with an allowance, because a ferronickel deposit cuts more slowly than steel.
