UTP A 38 is a copper alloy solid wire of the Cu 1897 type, CuAg1. It works on water systems, machine parts, plain bearings and hardfacing of bronze surfaces.
The wire suits hand work with a semiautomatic torch and mechanised stations, and the deposit is copper based.
- Classification EN ISO: 24373 S Cu 1897 (CuAg1)
- AWS classification: A5.7 ER Cu
- Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 / 1.6 mm
Take care of the ventilation at the station, copper alloys give off fumes that need extraction. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Allow for the high thermal conductivity of copper and preheat thicker sections, otherwise you will not get fusion.
