WEARstick Co 12 stick electrode

Formerly: UTP Celsit 712. The manufacturer changed the catalogue name (voestalpine Böhler Welding catalogue 2025, p. 164): WEARstick Co 12 stick electrode is the same product as UTP Celsit 712. Before ordering, confirm the diameter, packaging and current approvals in the product datasheet.

What WEARstick Co 12 stick electrode is used for

WEARstick Co 12 is used for highly wear resistant hardfacings on parts subject to a combination of abrasion, erosion, cavitation, corrosion, pressure and high temperatures up to 900 degrees C, such as running, sealing and gliding faces on fittings and pumps, tools for wood, paper and plastic, shredding tools and highly stressed hot working tools not subject to thermal shock. Previously sold as UTP Celsit 712.

The classification is E CoCr-B to AWS A5.13, E Co3 to EN 14700 and E 20-UM-50 CSTZ to DIN 8555. The hardness of the pure deposit is 48 to 50 HRC, about 40 HRC at 500 degrees C and about 33 HRC at 700 degrees C. The deposit is machined by grinding or with tungsten carbide tools, and the maker states a homogeneous, finely rippled bead with very easy slag removal.

  • Classification DIN 8555: E 20-UM-50 CSTZ, EN 14700: E Co3
  • AWS classification A5.13 / SFA-5.13: E CoCr-B
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 3.2 mm
  • Lengths: 350 mm
  • Hardness of deposit: 48-50 HRC
  • Former name: UTP Celsit 712

The electrode comes in the 3.2 mm diameter only, so plan a layered build-up rather than one heavy bead. Clean the base of old deposit and cracks, and grind out any crack you find before welding. Preheat massive parts and cool them slowly under a blanket, a cobalt alloy can crack if it is chilled fast. On sealing faces lay at least two layers, so that full deposit is left after machining.
