Avesta 308L/MVR is a submerged arc (SAW) wire for welding stainless and acid-resistant steels. Typical work covers tanks, process installations, food and chemical industry equipment and structures in contact with water and steam.
The wire joins materials such as 1.4301, 1.4307, 304L, 1.4311, 304LN and 1.4541. It is used on mechanised stations, on butt welds in plate and circumferential welds on tanks.
- Classification EN ISO: S 19 9 L
- AWS classification: ER308L
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 1.6 / 2.4 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
After welding remove the heat tint by pickling or brushing, the oxide layer alone lowers the corrosion resistance of the joint. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld.
