Avesta P5 is a submerged arc (SAW) wire for welding stainless and acid-resistant steels. It is used on process installations, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.
Submerged arc welding gives a very high deposition rate on long, repeatable welds. The wire also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces.
- Classification EN ISO: S 23 12 2 L
- AWS classification: ER309LMo(mod.)
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 2.4 / 3.2 mm
Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the bead face. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position.
