Thermanit A is a submerged arc (SAW) wire for welding stainless and acid-resistant steels. Typical work covers tanks, process installations, food and chemical industry equipment and structures in contact with water and steam.
Typical base materials are AISI 316 and 316L. The wire also suits cladding runs, that is protective layers built up on steel.
- Classification EN ISO: S 19 12 3 Nb
- AWS classification: ER318
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 2.4 / 3.2 / 4.0 mm
Keep the interpass temperature low and the beads narrow, overheating austenitic steel promotes carbide precipitation and distortion. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position.
