What Thermanit GE-316L SAW wire is used for

Thermanit GE-316L is a high alloyed austenitic stainless submerged arc (SAW) wire. It works on pressure vessels, pipework and austenitic steel structures where corrosion resistance matters.

Base materials include 1.4401, 1.4404, 1.4409, 1.4429, 1.4432, 1.4435 and 1.4436. The wire also suits cladding runs on steel, and its deposit resists intergranular corrosion with an austenitic structure.

Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the bead face. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off.
