What Avesta P12 SAW wire is used for

Avesta P12 is a submerged arc (SAW) wire for welding nickel alloys. It goes into tanks and pipework made of nickel alloys, and into cladding layers on steel.

The wire joins materials such as 1.4547 and 1.4529. It is used on mechanised stations for butt and circumferential welds, and it works on boiler parts, furnaces and heat exchangers exposed to aggressive media.

Keep the interpass temperature low and limit weaving, nickel is prone to hot cracking. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling.
