What BÖHLER 2,5 Ni-IG TIG rod is used for

BÖHLER 2,5 Ni-IG is a TIG rod for welding low-temperature nickel steels. It works on LNG tanks, cryogenic installations and pipework operating below zero.

You feed the filler into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld. TIG gives you full control over the heat input and a clean, smooth weld.

  • Classification EN ISO: 636-A W 46 8 2Ni2
  • AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER80S-Ni2
  • Shielding gas: I1
  • Diameters: 2.0 / 2.4 / 3.0 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (01081), DNV, BV, Equinor, CE

Run narrow beads without wide weaving, so the weld keeps its fine grained structure. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
