What BÖHLER ER 80 S Ni 1-IG TIG rod is used for

BÖHLER ER 80 S Ni 1-IG is a TIG rod for welding low-temperature nickel steels. It is used on liquefied gas tanks, cryogenic installations and refrigeration equipment.

TIG gives you full control over the heat input and a clean, smooth weld. The rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face.

Run narrow beads without wide weaving, so the weld keeps its fine grained structure. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones suit filling. A change of shielding mixture changes how the arc behaves, so try it on a test piece before production.
