Union I 1,2 Ni is a TIG rod for welding low-temperature nickel steels. It works on LNG tanks, cryogenic installations and pipework operating below zero.
The rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face. You feed the filler into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld.

Keep the heat input and the interpass temperature down, low temperature toughness drops as soon as the joint overheats. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance.
