Thermanit 22/09 is a high alloyed submerged arc (SAW) wire for duplex stainless steels. It works on chemical installations, desalination plant, tanks and offshore structures in two phase steels.
The wire suits grades such as 1.4462, S355J, 1.4583 and UNS S31803. It goes onto offshore structures where the joint works in seawater, and its deposit resists intergranular corrosion.
- Classification EN ISO: 14343-A S 22 9 3 N L
- AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER2209
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
- Diameters: 2.0 / 2.4 / 2.5 / 3.0 mm
Do not quench the joint with water or force the cooling, too fast a cooling rate leaves too much ferrite in the weld. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off.
