Thermanit 309L Mo is a high alloyed austenitic stainless submerged arc (SAW) wire for special applications. It is used on process installations, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.
The wire is used on mechanised stations, on butt welds in plate and circumferential welds on tanks. It also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and its deposit has an austenitic structure that resists corrosion.
- Classification EN ISO: 14343-A S 23 12 2 L
- AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER309LMo (mod.)
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
Keep the heat input down and do not hold the joint hot longer than you need to, austenite expands strongly and pulls the structure out of shape. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off. Match the flux to this wire and check how dry it is, drying the flux decides the hydrogen level in the weld.
