Thermanit 317L is a high alloyed austenitic stainless submerged arc (SAW) wire. It works on pressure vessels, pipework and austenitic steel structures where corrosion resistance matters.
The wire works as a set with a matched flux, which decides the mechanical properties of the weld. Its deposit has an austenitic structure, and the wire covers process installations, heat exchangers, sanitary structures and parts exposed to corrosion.
- Classification EN ISO: 14343-A S 19 13 4 L
- AWS classification: A5.9 / SFA-5.9 ER317L
- Shielding: flux matched to the wire, no shielding gas
Use brushes and discs kept only for stainless steel, carbon steel particles cause rust staining on the bead face. Keep an even flux layer over the arc, too thin a layer exposes the arc and too thick a one spoils the bead shape. Watch the wire stick-out and the position of the head against the weld centre line, under a flux you cannot see the pool and a mistake shows only after the slag is chipped off.
