What Thermanit 35/45 Nb solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

Thermanit 35/45 Nb is a solid MIG/MAG electrode wire for welding nickel alloys. It is used on chemical process equipment, high temperature installations and mixed joints between nickel alloys and steels.

The wire runs under shielding gas, fed continuously from the torch of a semi-automatic set. It also serves for cladding carbon steel surfaces, and it covers tanks and pipework made of nickel alloys.

  • Classification EN ISO: S Ni Z (NiCr36Fe15Nb0.8)
  • Diameters: 1.2 mm

Move the pool more slowly than on steel, nickel alloys are sluggish and will not flow to the groove edges on their own. Watch the wire stick-out from the contact tip, too long a stick-out drops the arc voltage and worsens penetration. Set the gas flow so the pool stays covered along the whole bead, and screen the workstation when you weld outdoors. Keep the interpass temperature low and limit weaving, nickel is prone to hot cracking.
