Thermanit 617 is a solid MIG/MAG welding wire for nickel alloys. It goes into tanks and pipework made of nickel alloys, and into cladding layers on steel.
Base materials include 1.4876, UNS N08800, 1.4958, UNS N08810, 1.4859, UNS N08151 and UNS N06601. The deposit keeps its impact toughness down to cryogenic temperatures, so the wire also reaches tanks and lines for liquefied gases. It suits cladding runs, that is protective layers built up on steel.
- Classification EN ISO: S Ni 6617 (NiCr22Co12Mo9)
- AWS classification: ERNiCrCoMo-1
- Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 mm
Degrease the joint before welding, because sulphur and lead residues left after machining cause hot cracking in nickel. Watch the wire stick-out from the contact tip, too long a stick-out drops the arc voltage and worsens penetration. Set the gas flow so the pool stays covered along the whole bead, and screen the workstation when you weld outdoors.
