Union AlMn 1 is a solid MIG/MAG electrode wire for welding aluminium and its alloys. It is used on aluminium structures, tanks, vehicle parts and shipbuilding products.
The wire suits hand work with a semiautomatic torch and mechanised stations, fed continuously under shielding gas. It goes into transport, the food industry and structures built to resist atmospheric corrosion.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273, S Al 3103 (AlMn1)
Degrease the plate and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium welds. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Remove the oxide layer with a stainless steel brush right before welding, aluminium oxide melts far higher than the metal itself.
