Union AlMn 1 is a TIG rod for welding aluminium and its alloys. It is used in transport, in the food industry and in structures that have to resist atmospheric corrosion.
Typical base materials are AlMn0, AlMn and AlMg3. You feed the rod into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld, which suits aluminium structures, tanks, vehicle parts and shipbuilding.
- Classification EN ISO: 18273, S Al 3103 (AlMn1)
- Diameters: 1.6 / 2.0 / 2.4 mm
Remove the oxide layer with a stainless steel brush right before welding, aluminium oxide melts far higher than the metal itself. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Protect the root when you weld from one side, an oxidised underside spoils the corrosion resistance. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
