What Union AlMg 5 TIG rod is used for

Union AlMg 5 is a TIG rod for welding aluminium and its alloys. It works on frames, tanks, housings and light structures in aluminium alloys.

Base materials include EN AW-5019, AlMg5, EN AW-5754, AlMg3, EN AW-5086, AlMg4 and AlMg4Mn. You feed the rod into the pool by hand while the arc burns between the tungsten electrode and the weld, which suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face.

Degrease the sheet and keep the surface dry, moisture is the main cause of porosity in aluminium. Keep the rod inside the gas shield even after you lift it from the pool, a cold oxidised end will contaminate the next drop. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield.
