What Union I CrMo 910 Spezial TIG rod is used for

Union I CrMo 910 Spezial is a low-alloy, creep resistant TIG rod. It is used in boiler making, on pressure vessels and petrochemical installations.

The rod joins grades such as 1.7335, 13CrMo4-5, 1.7262, 15CrMo5, 1.7728, 16CrMoV4 and 1.7218, along with related materials. Its copper coated surface improves current pick-up in the contact tip and smooth feeding, and the deposit resists creep at elevated temperature.

  • AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER90S-G
  • Shielding gas: I1
  • Diameters: 1.0 / 1.6 / 2.4 / 3.2 mm

Plan the preheating and the post weld heat treatment to the WPS for the grade in hand, CrMo steels harden in the heat affected zone. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Match the diameter to the material thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
