Union X 55 is a low-alloyed, high-strength solid wire. It suits welding quenched and tempered high-strength steels on mobile structures, machine frames, cranes and parts built for a lower own weight.
The wire suits hand work with a semiautomatic torch and mechanised stations, fed continuously from the feeder and welded under shielding gas.
- Classification EN ISO: 16834-A G 55 5 M Mn3NiCrMo
- AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER100S-G
- Shielding gas: M21
- Diameters: 1.0 / 1.2 mm
- Approvals: TÜV (19636), CE
Keep the hydrogen level low: dry consumables, a clean groove and preheating on greater thicknesses. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Match the diameter to the thickness and the position, thinner wires are easier to control in constrained positions.
