Union X 96 is a low-alloyed, high-strength solid wire. It suits welding quenched and tempered high-strength steels on working machines, booms, cranes and structures that need a high yield strength.
It is used on grades such as S960Q, S960QL, S890Q, S890QL, S890MC and S960MC, fed continuously under shielding gas from a semiautomatic torch.
- Classification EN ISO: 16834-A G 89 5 M21 Mn4Ni2.5CrMo
- AWS classification: A5.28 / SFA-5.28 ER120S-G
- Shielding gas: M2
- Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 mm
- Approvals: DB (42.132.26), CE
Do not exceed the permitted interpass temperature, an overheated heat affected zone loses its toughness. Watch the wire stick-out from the contact tip, too long a one lowers the arc voltage and worsens the fusion. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones the fill passes.
