UTP 82 AS is an electrode with a thick coating for gouging and bevelling. It works on all steel grades with a ferritic and an austenitic structure, on cast iron, on cast steel and on non-ferrous metals. The manufacturer also recommends it for removing corroded layers of metal and for cutting metallic materials with the arc.
You gouge a groove with it simply, without a compressor and without a torch, because the coating generates a high gas pressure that blows the molten metal out of the kerf. The electrode strikes easily and the surface after cutting comes out clean and smooth. Production covers the 3.2 and 4.0 mm diameters in a length of 350 mm.
- Application: arc gouging, bevelling and cutting
- Coating: thick coating, type not stated by the manufacturer
- Current: AC/DC-
- Diameters: 3.2 / 4.0 mm
- Lengths: 350 mm
Hold the electrode at a shallow angle to the surface, almost flat, and move it forward in the direction of gouging, without stopping. Set the current higher than for welding with the same diameter, because the material is to be melted out and not joined. Work with a face shield and gauntlets, because the spray of molten metal travels a long way. After gouging, grind the surface of the groove before you lay a weld in it.
