UTP Nautica Cut is an electrode intended for cutting, drilling and bevelling metallic materials in a wet environment. The manufacturer directs it to maintenance and repair work carried out under water.
The coating generates a gas pressure in the arc high enough to blow the molten metal out of the kerf, so you need no compressed air, no additional gas and no special holder, standard underwater welding equipment is enough. The electrode strikes easily, and thanks to its high current carrying capacity it cuts material up to 10 or 12 mm thick cleanly. The cut faces are even and smooth walled, so the welding that follows needs no further edge preparation.
- Application: underwater cutting, drilling and bevelling
- Current: DC-
- Diameters: 3.2 mm
- Lengths: 450 mm
- Maximum cutting thickness: approximately 10 to 12 mm
Work on direct current with the electrode negative only, as the manufacturer states. Before the dive check the current disconnect switch at the surface and agree the signals with the standby diver, because under water you cannot check the circuit yourself. Guide the electrode with a sawing motion along the line of the cut, with light pressure, so that the gas blows the metal out of the kerf. On heavier material make several passes rather than forcing one.
