What 3Dprint AM 718 solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

3Dprint AM 718 is a nickel alloy solid wire for WAAM additive manufacturing. It also welds nickel alloys on boiler and furnace parts, chemical plant and heat exchangers exposed to aggressive media.

The wire runs under shielding gas, fed continuously from a semiautomatic torch, by hand and on mechanised stations. It goes on chemical equipment, high-temperature plant and dissimilar joints between nickel alloys and steels.

  • AWS classification: Alloy 718 - Ni19Fe19Nb5Mo3 - N7718 - 2.4668
  • Diameters: 0.5 / 1.0 / 1.2 / 5.14 mm

Keep the interpass temperature low and limit weaving, nickel is sensitive to hot cracking. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets the wire feed and causes burnback. Match the drive rolls to the wire diameter and check the liner, wire slip shows up at once in an unstable arc. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones the fill passes.
