BÖHLER NiBAS 70/20-IG is a solid MIG/MAG wire for welding nickel alloys. It works on boiler components, furnace parts, chemical installations and heat exchangers exposed to aggressive media.
The wire suits grades such as NiCr15Fe. The deposit keeps its impact toughness down to cryogenic temperatures, so it also goes into tanks and pipework for liquefied gases. You will find it on boilers and pressure vessels covered by statutory inspection.
- Classification EN ISO: S Ni 6082 (NiCr20Mn3Nb)
- AWS classification: ERNiCr-3
- Diameters: 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 mm
Degrease the joint before welding, because sulphur and lead residues left after machining cause hot cracking in nickel. Set the gas flow so the pool stays covered along the whole bead, and screen the workstation when you weld outdoors. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets wire feeding and leads to burnback. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner wires are easier to control out of position.
