What 3Dprint AM Ti-5 solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

3Dprint AM Ti-5 is a WAAM solid wire in titanium, supplied in grade 5. It is used on chemical process equipment, heat exchangers and parts that need corrosion resistance at low weight.

The wire runs under shielding gas, fed continuously from the torch of a semi-automatic set. Besides WAAM additive manufacturing it covers process installations, tanks and titanium structures.

Shield the face, the root and the cooling zone with gas, because above a few hundred degrees titanium absorbs oxygen and nitrogen from the air and the joint turns brittle. Set the gas flow so the pool stays covered along the whole bead, and screen the workstation when you weld outdoors. Check the contact tip, a worn bore upsets wire feeding and leads to burnback. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner wires are easier to control out of position.
