Avesta 309L-Si is a TIG welding rod for stainless and acid-resistant steels. Typical work covers tanks, process installations, equipment for the food and chemical industries and structures in contact with water and steam.
The rod suits root runs, thin walls and welds that need a smooth face. It also serves for cladding runs, that is protective layers built up on steel.

Keep the interpass temperature low and the beads narrow, overheating austenitic steel promotes carbide precipitation and distortion. Set the gas post-flow long enough for the pool and the electrode to cool under the shield. Grind the tungsten tip along its axis and hold a short arc, otherwise the pool spreads. Match the diameter to the plate thickness and the welding position, thinner rods are easier to control out of position.
