What BÖHLER 2,5 Ni-IG solid MIG/MAG wire is used for

BÖHLER 2,5 Ni-IG is a solid MIG/MAG wire for low-temperature nickel steels. It is used on liquefied gas tanks, cryogenic plant and refrigeration equipment.

Among the parent materials it covers S275N, S460N, S275NL, S460NL, S275M, S460M and S275ML. The copper coated surface improves current transfer in the tip, and the deposit keeps its toughness in the cryogenic range, so it goes on tanks and plant for liquefied gases.

Run narrow beads without wide weaving, so the weld keeps its fine grained structure. Watch the wire stick-out from the contact tip, too long a one lowers the arc voltage and worsens the fusion. Set the gas flow so the pool is covered over the whole length of the bead, and shield the station when you work in wind. Thinner diameters suit root runs and thin sheet, thicker ones the fill passes.
