What BÖHLER FOX 2,5 Ni stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX 2,5 Ni is a nickel alloyed basic coated electrode of the E8018-C1 H4R type, for unalloyed steels and nickel alloyed fine grained structural steels. The deposit is ductile and crack resistant, and its toughness holds down to -80 degrees C, which the manufacturer states as -112 degrees F.

The range of steels covers S275N to S460N, S275NL to S460NL, S275M to S460M, S275ML to S460ML as well as P275NL1 to P460NL1 and P275NL2 to P460NL2. The coating is moisture resistant and the diffusible hydrogen content stays below 4 ml per 100 g of weld metal under the AWS condition. The electrode welds in all positions except vertical-down. The approval list covers classification societies and WIWEB.

Nickel steel for low temperature service calls for the heat input to be kept in hand, so lay narrow beads and measure the interpass temperature rather than filling the groove with wide weaving. Bake the electrodes before work, because class H5 applies to a dry coating. DC with the electrode positive and a short arc are the condition for calm work. If the joint goes for impact testing, agree the test temperature before welding, because the permissible heat input depends on it.
