What BÖHLER FOX A 7-A stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX A 7-A is a rutile basic coated austenitic electrode of the E Z 18 9 MnMo R / E307-16 (mod.) type for welding and cladding in all positions except vertical down. The maker points it at hard to weld steels, dissimilar welding, repair and maintenance, and at tough buffer and intermediate layers for cladding rails and switches, valve seats and parts in hydropower plants.

The base material named in the data sheet is the high manganese steel 14Mn. The weld metal offers exceptionally high ductility and elongation together with high resistance to hot cracking, works up to 650 degrees C, and the ferrite content to WRC 92 is 4 to 8 FN. The deposit work hardens and resists cavitation well. It is resistant to scaling up to 850 degrees C, but above 500 degrees C it does not take sulphurous flue gases.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E Z 18 9 MnMo R 3 2
  • AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E307-16 (mod.)
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: AC/DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 450 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (02078), DB (30.014.40), CE

The difference from the basic FOX A 7 comes down to handling: this version runs on alternating and direct current, starts more calmly and leaves a nicer bead, so it suits site work and older sets. When you surface rails, work in short beads and let the material cool, so that the rail head is not tempered. A short arc and a narrow bead keep the dilution from the base down.
