BÖHLER FOX CEL 80-P is a cellulosic coated electrode with a nickel bearing deposit, of the E8010-P1 type, for vertical-down welding of large diameter pipelines made of higher strength steel. The manufacturer recommends it for the hot pass, filler layers and the cap. The material is approved for pipelines carrying sour gas after the HIC test to NACE TM-02-84.
The base steels are L415NB to L485NB and L415MB to L485MB. Compared with the related FOX CEL 85, the electrode gives a sharper arc and a more fluid pool, which makes filling the groove faster. Nickel in the deposit raises the toughness at low temperatures, and welding downhill shortens the time needed to complete a section compared with the classic uphill technique.

Work on DC with the electrode positive only, as the manufacturer states. A sharp arc likes a short distance to the work: keep the electrode close to the pool and do not let it spread sideways. Between layers grind out the strike and stop points of each bead, because that is where inclusions usually stay. Protect the coating from getting wet, and set damp electrodes aside instead of drying them on your own initiative.
