What UTP Nautica 20 stick electrode is used for

UTP Nautica 20 is a rutile coated stick electrode for manual welding in a wet environment, intended for joints made underwater. The manufacturer confirmed its performance by a TÜV test at a water depth of 2 m, and it can be used down to 20 m below the surface.

The base material is S235JR steel. The coating is protected against water and the electrode works in the PB, PC, PD and PG positions, that is horizontal-vertical, horizontal on a vertical wall, overhead and vertical-down. Classification follows DIN 2302, the designation being E 42 0 Z R 2 fr. The manufacturer allows DC on both polarities.

  • Classification DIN 2302: E 42 0 Z R 2 fr (PB, PC, PD, PG)
  • Coating: rutile
  • Current: DC+/DC-
  • Positions: PB, PC, PD, PG
  • Diameters: 3.2 mm
  • Lengths: 350 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV to DIN 2302-1001.00

Carry out wet welding only under an underwater work regime, with a current disconnect switch operated from the surface. Keep the arc short and press the electrode against the material, because the gas bubble around the arc has to stay stable. Water takes the heat away instantly, so expect a hard heat affected zone and do not use this technique on critical components without a qualified procedure. Take the electrodes out of the packaging immediately before the dive.
