What Phoenix 120 K stick electrode is used for

Phoenix 120 K is a basic coated electrode of the E7018-1 type with good welding characteristics out of position as well. The manufacturer recommends it for steel structures, boilers, tanks, ships, bridges and vehicles, pointing to fine grained steels and offshore structures.

The base steels are S235JRG2 to S355J2, the pipe grades L290NB to L415NB and L290MB to L415MB, and P235GH, P265GH and P295GH. The deposit is very clean and keeps its properties down to -50 degrees C, and a CTOD test was made down to -10 degrees C. The metal recovery is 110 percent and the diffusible hydrogen stays below 5 ml per 100 g. The electrode runs on AC and on both polarities of DC.

  • Classification EN ISO 2560-A: E 42 5 B 3 2 H5
  • Classification EN ISO 2560-B: E4918-1 AU H5
  • AWS classification A5.1 / SFA-5.1: E7018-1
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: AC/DC+/DC-
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 450 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (00348), DB (10.014.83), ABS, BV, DNV, LR

Fine grained steels do not take surplus heat, so watch the heat input and the interpass temperature in the procedure instead of speeding up with a heavier bead. Dry the electrodes to the data sheet and keep them in a quiver for the whole shift. When working on AC, check the open circuit voltage of the power source. For structures inspected by a classification society, have the batch certificate ready together with the procedure documents.
