Phoenix Spezial D is a basic double coated electrode of the E7016 type, easy to weld in all positions except vertical-down. The manufacturer stresses the well controlled arc, which makes out of position work easier, and excellent root penetration.
The manufacturer names the steels S235JR to S355JR, S235JO to S355JO and S235J2 to S355J2, and further S275N to S420N, S275M to S420M and P235GH to P355GH. The double coating keeps the bead shape even and makes slag removal easier, and there is little spatter. The diffusible hydrogen in the deposit stays below 10 ml per 100 g. The electrode runs calmly on alternating current, on small transformers as well.

Lay the root with the 2.5 or 3.2 mm diameter, resting the coating on the groove faces, and the penetration comes out even along the whole length. In the overhead and vertical positions reduce the current and shorten the bead. A basic coating needs drying, so follow the instructions of the manufacturer even though the hydrogen class here is less demanding than H5. On DC the holder goes to the positive pole.
