What Phoenix Chromo 1 stick electrode is used for

Phoenix Chromo 1 is a basic coated electrode with a CrMo deposit, of the E8018-B2 type. The manufacturer directs it to the fabrication of heavily loaded steam boilers and superheater tubes and to quenched and tempered steels. The deposit takes quenching and tempering and resists caustic cracking.

The base materials are 13CrMo4-5 and 22CrMo5-4. The manufacturer states creep resistance up to 500 degrees C under short term loading and up to 570 degrees C under long term loading. Production covers diameters from 2.0 to 5.0 mm, so one item handles thin superheater tubes as well as heavier pressure parts.

  • Classification EN ISO 3580-A: E CrMo1 B 4 2 H5
  • AWS classification A5.5 / SFA-5.5: E8018-B2 H4
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
  • Lengths: 350 and 450 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (01752.), CE

Weld superheater tubes with a thin electrode and a low current, because a thin wall burns through quickly. Set the preheat according to thickness and grade, and on 22CrMo5-4 do not go below the value in the data sheet. Resistance to caustic cracking matters in boilers, so leave no notches or crevices where the solution can collect. Dry the electrodes before work and carry them in a portable quiver.
