Thermanit MTS 616 LNi is a core wire alloyed stick electrode with a basic coating. After post weld heat treatment the 9Cr-1.8W-0.5Mo-V-Nb type deposit has a tempered martensitic structure and good mechanical properties. The range of applications covers tube, pipe, plate and forgings made of creep resistant steels of the ASTM grade 92 class in thermal power plants.
The base material is 1.4901 (X10CrWMoVNb9-2). Holding the sum of manganese and nickel below 1.0 percent by weight raises the Ac1 temperature safely above 790 degrees C, that is ten degrees higher than in the standard version. The chemical composition was optimized for creep resistance and ductility after annealing, with a low content of trace elements. Production covers diameters from 2.0 to 5.0 mm.

A higher Ac1 temperature gives more freedom in tempering, but it does not release you from measuring, because the furnace has to hold the temperature in the procedure and not the one you remember. Take care of a thin wall with the 2.0 mm electrode and fill heavier sections with the 4.0 or 5.0 mm diameter. Hold the preheat and the interpass temperature through the whole welding operation. Keep the electrodes in a quiver, because hydrogen in this steel ends in cracks under the weld face.
