BÖHLER FOX CrMo 2V is a core wire alloyed electrode with a basic coating for welding steels of the 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V type. The deposit has a bainitic structure and good mechanical properties in the tempered condition. The manufacturer directs it to joints in creep resistant steels of this class in the fabrication of heavy walled pressure vessels for the petrochemical industry.
The base material is the grade 1.7703 (13CrMoV9-10) and related 2.25Cr-1Mo-0.25V steels. The approval covers service under creep conditions at design temperatures up to 550 degrees C, and the impact energy stays high below -30 degrees C. A low content of residual elements gives a Bruscato factor below 15 ppm, so the deposit resists temper embrittlement and meets the requirements of the step cooling test. The coating hardly takes up moisture, which keeps the diffusible hydrogen low.

Heavy walled vessels take a long time to weld, so plan to hold the preheat through the whole shift, in the breaks as well. Vanadium raises the demands on stress relieving, so take the temperature and the soaking time from the data sheet of the base material, not from a general table. Lay narrow, regular beads, because on large sections the repeatability of every layer is what counts. Keep the electrodes in a quiver, even though the coating takes up little moisture.
