BÖHLER FOX CEL Mo is a cellulosic coated electrode with a molybdenum alloyed deposit, of the E7010-A1 type, for vertical-down welding of higher strength large diameter pipelines. The manufacturer recommends it for the hot pass and for filler and cover layers.
The base steels are L290MB to L415MB, P235T2 to P355T2 as well as S235JR, S275JR, S235J2 and S275J2. Molybdenum raises the strength of the deposit while the impact energy stays high. The arc is sharp and penetrates deeply, so the joint comes out sound and passes radiographic testing. The material is qualified for sour gas installations, the HIC test having been made to NACE TM-02-84.

Deep penetration means you have to watch the root gap and the root face, because with an arc like this too wide a gap quickly ends in burn through. Set the current and the travel speed so that the pool stays compact and the cap even. After every pass look at the toes for undercut, which a sharp arc can dig out. Steel with molybdenum takes welding better after preheating, so set it according to the wall thickness and the requirements of the procedure.
