What BÖHLER FOX CN 16/13 stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX CN 16/13 is a basic coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E Z 16 13 Nb B type, for welding heat and creep resistant CrNi alloyed austenitic stainless steels. The manufacturer directs it to high efficiency boilers and turbine components, with approval for long term service up to 800 degrees C.

The base grades are 1.4878 (X8CrNiTi18-10), 1.4910 (X3CrNiMoBN17-13-3) and 1.4919 (X6CrNiMoB17-12-2). The deposit is fully austenitic and resistant to embrittlement and hot cracking. You work with the electrode in every position except vertical-down.

  • Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E Z 16 13 Nb B 4 2
  • Coating: basic
  • Current: DC+
  • Diameters: 2.5 / 3.2 mm
  • Lengths: 250 and 350 mm
  • Approvals: TÜV (00550), CE

The manufacturer states resistance to hot cracking, but with a fully austenitic deposit lay narrow beads all the same and keep the interpass temperature low. Fill the crater at the end of a bead right to the end. Keep the groove clean, because grease and paint residue put inclusions into the weld that grow into cracks at service temperature. Dry the electrodes to the instructions of the manufacturer and carry them in a quiver.
