BÖHLER FOX CN 22/9 N-B is a basic coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 22 9 3 N L B / E2209-15 type for welding duplex stainless steels such as 1.4462 / UNS S31803 and S32205. It is designed for joining thick walled sections, above 20 mm for example, for rigid constructions and for work with extra low service temperature requirements, down to minus 50 degrees C.
The electrode suits grades 1.4462 (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3), 1.4362 (X2CrNiN23-4) and 1.4162 (X2CrNiMoN21-5-1). The weld metal meets the corrosion test requirements of ASTM G48 Methods A, B and E at 25 degrees C and shows high resistance to stress corrosion cracking. The ferrite content measured with a FeritScope FMP30 is 34 to 36 FN and the service temperature range runs from minus 50 to 250 degrees C. The slag comes off easily, the bead looks even, and the coating gives high safety against porosity. Welding runs in all positions except vertical down.

Dry the electrodes to the maker data sheet before welding, a basic coating is hygroscopic and moisture shows up at once as porosity. Split a heavy wall into many thin runs, measure the interpass temperature and do not close the joint with one wide pass. Direct current, electrode positive, arc as short as you can hold it.
