What BÖHLER FOX CN 23/12-A stick electrode is used for

BÖHLER FOX CN 23/12-A is a rutile coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 23 12 L / E309L-17 type, giving an increased delta ferrite content in the deposit. The maker intends it for safe, crack resistant dissimilar joint welds and for surfacing.

The electrode runs on alternating and direct current with the electrode positive, it has a high current carrying capacity and minimum spatter. The slag releases itself, the weld profile is smooth and clean, and the moisture resistant coating keeps the risk of porosity down. The operating temperature runs from minus 60 to 300 degrees C, and up to 400 degrees C for weld claddings. The approval list covers TÜV, DB, ABS, BV, LR, DNV and CWB.

This is the electrode most often used to join mild steel to stainless, so keep to the simple rule: less dilution means more ferrite and fewer cracks. Current in the lower part of the range, a short arc, straight beads without weaving and the arc led closer to the mild side. When you surface carbon steel, plan two layers if the surface has to work in corrosion.
