BÖHLER FOX CN 29/9-A is a rutile coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 29 9 R / E312-17 type. It is a highly alloyed electrode with a high ferrite content that gives high tensile strength and excellent resistance to cracking. It is intended primarily for dissimilar welding between stainless steel, high strength steel, tool steel, spring steel and 14Mn steel, and for other difficult to weld combinations.
The base grades are 1.4339 (GX32CrNi28-10), 1.4347 (GX8CrCrNiN26-7) and 1.4340 (GX49CrNi27-4). The deposit work hardens, so it suits wear resisting build-ups on clutches, gear wheels and shafts, and repair and maintenance work such as welding tools. The electrode handles easily on alternating current and on direct current with the electrode positive, and it has very good corrosion resistance in wet sulphurous environments, for example in the sulphate digesters used in the pulp and paper industry.

Before you reach for this electrode, check that the joint is meant to stay rigid, because an E312 deposit is hard and not very ductile. For structures under dynamic load a ductile austenitic electrode of the E307 type fits better. Weld in thin beads with a low heat input, let the joint cool and grind the transitions, so that no notch is left.
