BÖHLER FOX EAS 4 M-A is a rutile coated, core wire alloyed electrode of the E 19 12 3 L R / E316L-17 type, intended mainly for the austenitic grades 1.4404 and 1.4435 / 316L. The manufacturer names it for every industry that runs steels of similar composition, higher carbon steels and ferritic 13Cr steels. The maximum service temperature is 400 degrees C.
You weld the grades 1.4401 (X5CrNiMo17-12-2) and 1.4404 (X2CrNiMo17-12-2) with it, and the cast grade 1.4409 (GX2CrNiMo19-11-2). The electrode handles easily on AC and DC, carries a high current with minimum spatter, the slag releases by itself and the bead comes out smooth. The deposit resists general and pitting corrosion well, and the approval list covers TÜV, DB, ABS, DNV, LR, CWB and RINA.
- Classification EN ISO 3581-A: E 19 12 3 L R 3 2
- AWS classification A5.4 / SFA-5.4: E316L-17
- Coating: rutile
- Current: AC/DC+
- Diameters: 2.0 / 2.5 / 3.2 / 4.0 / 5.0 mm
- Lengths: 250, 300, 350 and 450 mm
- Approvals: TÜV (00773), DB (30.014.14), ABS, DNV, LR, CWB, RINA, CE
The wide range of diameters from 2.0 to 5.0 mm and lengths from 250 to 450 mm makes this an electrode for the whole workshop, but the choice matters: shorter and thinner for sheet and root runs, longer and thicker for filling. 316L does not take overheating, so do not use the full current capacity without a reason. Brush the discoloration off with a stainless steel brush afterwards, and pickle and passivate the joint if it will work in chlorides.
