BÖHLER FOX EV 50 PIPE is a basic covered electrode that the manufacturer developed for pipeline construction. It suits the welding of pipes and above all root runs: a sound, well fused root is achieved in all positions, without a backing and without back welding from the inside. The electrode has passed HIC and HSCC testing.
The base materials are the steels L245MB to L415MB and grades to API 5L. The deposit is metallurgically very clean and has high impact energy, which on girth welds translates into calm results in non destructive testing. The manufacturer allows AC and DC on both polarities, so the electrode gets along with the various power sources found on site.

Lay the root with a narrow gap and watch the root face, because a basic electrode penetrates less deeply than a cellulosic one. Take a thinner diameter for the first pass and hold a very short arc, practically with the coating resting on the groove faces. Keep the electrodes in a portable quiver and do not leave an open pack out in the rain. Match the current to the position: in overhead and vertical drop a few amps below the flat setting.
